CEU4 - Editing Shell Feature V8i vs Editing Shell Feature CE

Hi,

In V8i I am able to edit an existing Shell Feature in 2 ways which I'm missing in CE:

1.To add an open face to a Shell Feature.

2. To change the Thickness of individual open faces afterwords.

I can't find any way of this Edit possibilities of Shell Features in Connect Edition.

Are there other ways to do the same changes in CE or if not will this be added future releases?

Regards,

Christian

  • As an alternative workflow rather, you could place two solids, one to represent the solid and the other for the cut.

Then use the Boolean Difference Feature tool to subtract the cut from the solid.

Once this is done you can use the Element Selection tool to select the solid and then its cutting solid. The handles can then be manipulated to reflect the required distance / direction required ( a specific value can be entered using accudraw ).

  • Hi Carl,

Thanks for your answer. It might work for simple solids (like my example) but,

I have a much more complex solid which is driven by a parametric 2D profile.

And at this solid I need different thicknesses of the faces.

For this case it was very easy useful in V8i to be able to change the thickness of the faces.

Will this change possibility be added in a future release?

  • I have filed Defect/Enhancement 658043 to have the ability to open any selected face using the Modify Solid tool as shown in this example it will not open all faces of an extruded profile that has been thin shelled.

  • Hello Christian,

As Carl replied, this is a defect we have but if you use Modify Face and use AccuDraw to snap to the next face so that the thickness of the face "becomes exactly 0", you can get rid of the faces that fail if dragged beyond the next face in the solid. Here's an example of what I managed to do with your test case and Modify Face by snapping with AccuDraw to the next face:

     =

The behavior is incorrect and will be addressed but hopefully this method can provide you with a temporary work-around for your issue.

    This is a test

  • Hi Carl and Diego,

Thanks for your answer. Yes it's a possible solution for some faces but not for all.

If I want to open a face at the back side of my example Solid which has a complex shape,

it opens the hole back side instead of only the selected face.

So I hope a Tool for adding open faces will be added to future releases.

    Regards,

    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Please could you send us your Model for review, if need be we can added it to the Defect\Enhancement to ensure this example is also captured.

    Thanks
    Carl
