CEU4 - How to add a Constraint to a Feature?

Hi,

In V8i I can control the position of a Hole Feature in a body by using the Tool "Constrain Feature".

In CE I have tried to use the Constraint Tools to do the same, but they don't work with Features.

How can I control the position of a Feature inside of a Solid?

Regards,

Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Try to  assign dimension to element then create variables, if you want you can add variations too.

Select the dimension, right click on it to edit and assign it to the variation you want.

  • Hi Aimable,

Thanks for your advice. I did a few more tests and now it works.

I was a little bit confused, because if you try to set a constrain and select only the solid you get the message "Element not valid for tool".

But it works if you select a edge of the solid.

There is one more confusing issue.

I have set two constraints for horizontal and vertical distance of the hole.

But it shows only the horizontal constraint. The vertical constraint is not visible.

But there is also a constraint. It is only visible if you select the hole feature.

    Is this a normal behaviour?

  • Hi Christian,
To view the distance constraint you need to select the element that has been constrained, here the "Hole"
You can also see all the constraints in the properties of the parametric solid

  • Hi Aimable,

I follow up this item after a long time.

Now I have created a Protrusion Feature at a side edge of my solid.

To keep the position at the edge I have set a distance constraint.

But when I change the width of the solid the protrusion doesn't follow the new position of the edge.

    What is wrong?

    Have filed a SR 7000927858

  • Hi Christian,

How was the protrusion added to the solid? you might have to constrain that element to the edge of that solid instead.

A protrusion added by the sweep edge stays with the solid
