[MS V8i .578] Text missing after merging reference with masked text.

Hi.

I am trying to merge a bunch of files where some of them have some text masked (with clip mask). When the files are merged, masked text nodes are missing from the merged file. Is there any solution for this?

Hopefully, the issue is clear in the video here

  • Because the text in the reference is multiple lines and its text node is being masked it is being ignored.

You could take a copy of the files and drop the text to single lines and then perform the merge in the build your using, but that's not really practical. If you perform the same operation in MicroStation CONNECT Update 4 the text will merged as you require.

    In future  try this

I dont use clip masks any more , I prefer to  create a level called masks then I draw polygons on that level  that surround the objects to be masked , my polygons have the  by level set say colour red outline and  make filled  colour  BG so I can see I've masked them then when all done I select the level and change  the  lot in one go to co=BG or 255 if you prefer  I can then turn the level off to undo the  mask for merges or on to hide text... much easier and better than fence clips masks ... remember to make the active  file file  sequence as last, just  in case I lock those elements and  the  level is locked , and frozen so others dont delete by error... and the level name MASKS is pretty important too.. most drafters  check the level display and level manager too...

  • Thanks. I forgot to test in CONNECT. There, it seems to work quite nicely. As a side note, it even copies tabbed text when you have a vertical clip mask. (It keeps all "columns" that are completely outside the clip area.

  • I didn't think of this. This might actually help with a lot of my scripted drawings. Just setting display on/off for each paragraph. Thanks for the tip.
