Creating new filters

Hello,

My name is Seandrell McLemore and I work with the CADD Department with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

Recently we created a new Title Sheet with the new levels:

Name

Number

IDENTIFICATION BLOCK - TDOT 400
IDENTIFICATION BLOCK - CONSULTANT 401
Title Sheet - Text 402
Title Sheet - LINE WORK 403
MAP 404
MAP - TEXT 405
PHASE PRELIMINARY 410
PHASE RIGHT-OF WAY 411
PHASE CONSTRUCTION 412
Project Length - ROW 420
Project Length - Construction - Riding Surface 421
Project Length - Construction - Non Riding Surface 422
Project Length - Resurfacing - Riding Surface 423
Project Length - Resurfacing - Non Riding Surface 424
Project Length - Resurfacing - Only 425
Project Description - Preliminary 430
Project Description - Right-Of-Way 431
Project Description - Construction 432
Revision - Text - Right-Of-Way 440
Revision - Text - Construction 441
Traffic Data Block No 1 - Survey Date 450
Traffic Data Block No 2 451
Traffic Data Block No 3 452
DESIGN EXCEPTION BLOCK 453
ROAD TO BE CLOSED BLOCK 454
NO EXCLUSIONS BLOCK 455
EXCLUSIONS BLOCK 456
County Map 460

Creating the levels was not a problem, however making the new filters work is another thing. I wanted to create filters to switch between Preliminary, Right-Of-Way and Construction phases.

When I try to test the new filters, the correct filters do not turn on or off accordingly. Here is a breakdown of one of the filters (this comes from TDOTV8mainOnTheFly.csv):

When I import the (.dgnlib) file with the new filters and test it out, levels that are suppose to stay on turns off. Is there something I am doing wrong?

  • Seandrell,
Why are you using CSV files?

I have had issues in the past trying to import Filters from a .csv file, Levels come in fine, but not filters. Stick with the dgnlibs for Level and Filter definitions.

Another thing I would recommend is to lose the level numbers. They aren't needed any longer and can cause levels to disappear if you have duplicate numbers.

  • #1. Use the DgnLib file to store level filters (and levels if possible) as RodWing suggests. CSV were useful when V8 first came out but are limited with filters for levels.
There are 2 types of Level Filters in M-Sta. the main type allows you to filter the levels by different level properties like the name, Number, Description, Used, number of elements, etc. using the using wildcards On/Off settings > < # etc.
The other type of filter is called a "Level Group" where you can pick and choose from the list of levels, picking the levels you want in that Level Group. They don't have to have anything in common, like parts of the name or description etc. The problem with this type is if new levels are created, you would have to manually add them to the "Level Group".
