how do I rotate a 3d drawing so a face aligns with the screen x & Y

Its Monday and time for a stupid question.

How do I rotate a 3d view so that it align with the screen X&Y ?

I want to save a view and create sections from this view.

Is this a ACS function  that would essentially make this face the workplane?

  • Hi Kirk,

you can create an ACS on a plane, view or by points, lock this acs (i use the acs lock in settings--> drawing scale) an then change te view rotation to top, it will align the plane with the screen ( as long as acs plane is locked)

    best regards

If you are modeling then I suggest working with ACS.
After the modeling I suggest working with clip volumes.

If the idea is to create sections why not create real section and once one is placed you can manipulate (rotate, move) it to be align with the face that you want. Then do a RMB on top of the boundary plane and choose Align view to clip volume. The view is automatically align perpendicular facing to the front of the green arrow.
