MicroStation CONNECT Reporting with connection to Look up tables

I am reaching out to find out if someone could help me with reporting.  I have a catalog # and want to populate additional columns with look up tables.  I am wondering if this is possible with MicroStation CONNECT.

  • Are you using plain old MicroStation CONNECT, or an application such as AECOSim?

Please clarify, in the context of MicroStation, what you mean by 'have a catalog #'.

    Additional columns in what?

Where/what are those look up tables?

  • I am just using plain old MicroStation CONNECT version 10.03.00.30.
We have a Traffic Sign Face catalog, based on the catalog # I would like to harvest Height, Width, Material, Background color, text and symbol color of each Sign Face I have in a dgn. I have an Item Type that has a Property Definition for Catalog Number I am using in my report definition. The look up tables would be external, I am thinking Excel, Access or a database.

Excellent innovatory use of Item Types!  So you've assigned Item data to various signs in your DGN model?  If so, you're also able to create a report of those data.

I don't think that there is currently a way to merge report data with data stored externally to MicroStation.  You can export a MicroStation report to Excel, and perform further work from there.  Where do you want to see the merged data: in MicroStation, in Excel or in a DB table?
