how to bring back menu and toolbars from v8 or v8i?

How do i bring back the menu and toolbars that are in v8 or v8i to microstation connect?

This ribbon interface is completly unproductive and it takes too much of the screen. We really don't understand why software are made with ribbons "menu" when there is a need for space on the screen

  • You can display the V8i style Tasks in MicroStation CONNECT Edition using the configuration variable MS_TASKNAVIGATION_CONFIGURATION. The following Wiki helps to explain how this can be achieved.

How to display the V8i style Tasks dialog in MicroStation CONNECT Edition?

  • bring back the side bar menu tool

and while were at it  why not  get rid of every tool bar and ribbon and go back to the digitisor tablet with puck and heaps of  menus...

or  one of those awesome  XButton pads with all the commands programmed in several buttons..a bit pricey  but if you use it alot its worth the cost in time saved....

I saw something on the web that let you connect a second  keyboard and  reprogram at least all the  F keys and combos, in addition to the existing keyboard .. came with a  program to make stickers to relabel the keys ... I think you could reprogram every key  on the 2nd keyboard tool .. for those of use poorer types you can buy an extra number key pad looks like it was cut off from rhs of normal keyboard... these tend to be  used by programmers and data entry in the old days... but they are now again popular and an worked with microstation v8i didnt try connect  if you run another mapping keyboard tool... i experimented with this last year  using two usb normal keyboards .. not bad   but no room on my  home desk and no stickers ... the program instructions suggested printing to Avery adhesive sheet and finishing  with clear contact paper before you cut out the key labels...FYI  the program was free ... I'll have to trawl through my downloads and emails but it would be fast using  google..

If you find it  start a new post / thread Like

No ribbons for me... or  How to use 2 keyboards..with menus.... should be very  popular with would be connect users!

  • Although the layout of the tools on the Ribbon may take some getting used to, that's not the main problem. With monitors going to a 16:9 ratio, the ribbon across the top of the monitor takes up WAY too much working space. Menus along the side make much more sense. I've even moved my windows task bar to the side for a more usable screen ratio.

    Me too...

Even in V8i but with windows 7  and sony  36" bravia tv / monitor I found I had to move the windows taskbar to the rhs or msnt just didnt give me full screen correct ratio especially  reading the message centre...
