Smart Lock "Enter Key"

I just switched to the v8i Select Series 4 environment and when I did, I lost all of my previous user settings.  I have went back through and configured everything to the way I had them except for 1 thing, the Smart Lock.

I used to use the Enter button to lock my command on either the X or Y axis.  Now every time I use enter, it brings up the "Key In" box.  How do change my enter button back to Smart Lock.  I have been googling this for hours and cannot find anything.  Can somebody please help me?

  • Just to make sure that there is a problem: you enter a command, such as Place SmartLine, and while placing the line you press enter and it still brings up the 'key-in' box?

    Cheers,

  • Correct.

I think I may have figured out what was wrong. It looked like my Accu Draw was not on. I opened the Accu Draw settings and checked the box to auto load. I then closed Microstation then reopened and now the enter for smart lock works. I do not not know how or why Accu draw was turned off, but everything appears to be back to normal for me. Thanks for the quick response.
  • Try turning off position Mapping in the preferences . Go to Workspace > preferences > Position Mapping . Then turn off "use position mapping". See if you then get the desired results.

  • Jay, I see that you have already figured out that you had AccuDraw off but let me explain why it was doing what it was doing.

In MicroStation there is always a dialog with focus or what I refer to as Input focus since it's not always a dialog. The dialog (or input) focus icon (4th from the right on the status bar) will show where any key that you press will go. Pressing <enter> will yield different results depending on who has focus. The most common dialogs to have focus are Home (aka the menus and tasks), AccuDraw, Tool Settings, and Key-in.

If AccuDraw has focus then <enter> will give you the SmartLock that you are looking for. So you need to have AccuDraw on and it also needs to have focus. If Home has focus then <enter> opens the key-in window, which is what you are seeing. This is true for SS4 but also true for all V8 versions so nothing has changed in SS4 regarding dialog focus.

Here is a shortcut list for dialog focus:
F12 - Home (can also be given focus with <esc>)
F11 - AccuDraw (can also be given focus with <esc> <space> or simply <space> if Home has focus)
    F10 - Tool Settings
F9 - Key-in (can also be given focus with <esc> <enter> or simply <enter> if Home has focus)

I've been teaching MicroStation for 20+ years and found over the years many users who have been using MicroStation for a long time and were not aware of the Dialog Focus. For the most part it just works and you don't have to know much about it but I always cover it in my class because sometimes you need to manually give Home or AccuDraw focus.
