Need Help!
I am trying to open a file on Projectwise and my Microstation keeps shutting down and the error in the dialogue box says "System Fault: Bad Memory Access" or "System Fault: 29". Also View Bar shows [Software Graphics]. The same problem comes with a file located on my Local C: too or if I hook up with a screen. Can anyone tell me a fix for it.
My system hardware is: 16 GB of Ram and Core i7 (Dell Latitude E7250). I have a Microstation V8i (SS3). The file I am opening is 2D - V8 DGN.
Thank you!
Hi Shashank,
I have no personal experience with this specific notebook, so just a guess based on the notebook specifications available on Internet:
The information [Software Graphics] shows that something is not correct how MicroStation is able to access and use the graphic card, typically it means that MicroStation ran out of memory on your graphics card for that view. System Fault: 29 is probably a consequence of this problem, because 29 is about write error to a device.
It seems the notebook is equipped with integrated graphics card (HD Graphics 5500) only, so you can try:
You did not write what Windows version do you use. MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) and newer, if it's supported by Windows, uses DirectX 11 and not older DirectX 9. If the driver and the card do not support DirectX 11 well, it can cause also problems, but they are usually not reported as [Software Graphics]. But if memory allocation and the driver update will not help, you can try to configure MicroStation to use DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 11. For this, configuration variable QV_D3DVERSION is used, and is discussed for example here (but also in many other discussions and Wiki articles).
With regards,
Jan
