HELP RECOVERING LINKS in project explorer

I must have moved a file that  I did not realize contain all my hyperlink data.

Rookie mistake

All of my link sets that I added are missing from Project Explorer

how can I locate the file that this data was stored in?

Im trying the DGN Indexing tool 1st

If I open one of my dgn file I can see that the link is still in the file but does not show up in PE

Therefore if I want to link that data to another element Im not able to do so

  • Hi Kirk,

Thanks for your query. below are few inputs against your comment,

"All of my link sets that I added are missing from Project Explorer" how can I locate the file that this data was stored in?

Where did you created linksets? in DGN or in DGNLIB file?

If you created them in dgnlib file then you need to set config variable "MS_DGNLIBLIST_LINKS" to your dgnlib file.

Im trying the DGN Indexing tool 1st"

DGN indexer tool will help you but you need to search manually in each dgn file. Actually Indexer tool used to replaces the harvesting technique in the Explorer dialog. The performance of the indexing service is much better than the conventional harvesting technique.

"If I open one of my dgn file I can see that the link is still in the file but does not show up in PE Therefore if I want to link that data to another element Im not able to do so"

It is not required to have links in PE if they are attached to element in dgn file. You can attach links to elements directly from "Add Link" tool. So that fine if the links are not available in PE.

Add Link tool can be start by selecting element and do Right Click on it and select "Add Link" from contextual menu.

Hope this information will help you.

To understand your problem more clearly will you please share following info?

What type of link you are attaching to the element? ex. dgn , url, keyin, file  link, etc

What is the build number of Microstation are you using?

Is it possible to share your dataset?

    Thanks
