MS V8i (SS4) Capture Google Earth Image Issue

Is this still an issue that can only be solved with an old version of Google Earth? I am experiencing similar issues.

Defect 1096864 was filed for  Google Earth tools. Google Earth Pro pushes updates to latest version,    7.3.3 (32 bits\64 bits), with this version google Earth tools do not work. This version does not synchronize correctly.

WORKAROUND: Uninstall latest version and come back to 7.1.8.3036 for windows  (32 bits). This version seems to be the only one that WILL NOT auto-update and all of the commands work as design. 

Note: Google removed the COM API from Google Earth that we are using from Microstation so there is no replacement that we can use. Users could still use this 7.1.8.3036 for windows  (32 bits) version of Google Earth with the API in it.

The Google Earth tools do more than provide a background map. Do the rest of the Google Earth tools work - is it only Capture Image that is broken?

And begin able to capture a specific map as opposed to just a "background image" had other benefits that people I have worked with enjoyed (including the ability to "see" that image in the background even if not connected to the internet).
