I'm trying to install MicroStation CONNECT Update 12 onto a server running Windows Server 2012 R2 to run as a publishing server for our DMS, printing approved dgn files to pdf.

Are there different setup or initialisation steps for this?

I would read your EULA carefully before implementing that.  MicroStation is not intended to be installed as a server.

Bentley Systems have their own range of server products, starting with ProjectWise and including print and publishing servers.  They may take a dim view of a customer creating their own print server.

We raised a Service Request to check if it was possible and they said it was acceptable and they have helped us before with this. The server is stand-alone with no internet connection and MicroStation is used to print pdfs for our document management system.

My next question is about running Bentley apps on VDI so we'll see how that goes!
