Delete Vertex: Deleting Multiple Vertices - Connect U4

Good Day,

I have been having something new happen with Connect U4.

I have line strings that have been created many different ways with many vertices. As I go to delete a single vertex, the tool "delete vertex" will delete many of the vertices in the line string. It seems that it will delete about half. I have not seen this before in V8i through SS4. Is there a setting that I am missing for this tool?

Thanks!

  • Hi Samir,

U16 just rolled out and I couldn't find any mention of a setting which disables the removing of colinear vertices. Is this being worked on, or should someone make a new issue about this? This is severely affecting our road surface modeling, as our client has a rule for having max 10 meter long triangle sides.

  • Hi Riki,

If the geometry you are working with are Shape/Complex Shape/Linestring Elements, then you should be able to remove colinear vertices using the Move Parallel tool with these settings. It works fine for me in V8i and I would assume it hasn't changed in CONNECT either

Just double click the element, and any extra colinear vertices disappear.

  • Barry,

I think Riki is asking for the opposite behavior and doesn't want colinear points removed automatically.

    For example:

The ability to have colinear points remain unchanged is important to controlling triangulation when using the Mesh from Contours command. If you create a square with 5 equallly spaced vertices on each side the resulting mesh should have 6 triangles touching each side of the square mesh. If the collinear points are removed the resulting triangles wont match the original intent and you would end up with just 2 triangles.

    Regards,
    Ron

  • Hi Riki, I totally agree with you. There is no option to turn off this behaviour of automatic delete vertices?

  • This was driving me insane the other day when I was drawing typical sections for a roadway project. When we draw the typical sections we like to have a point at each lane/shoulder break. On a section where you mat have 3 12' lanes and a 10' shoulder I would have 3 points. On a section where superelevation exists all the lanes would be at the same cross slope. Everything was fine until the shoulder width changed from 10' to 8'. I drew a new vertical line at the 8' width and used the Trim Element tool. I went back to place dimensions using the points for each lane width only to find that all vertices were deleted!

That's just ridiculous. I know there are plenty of times I want to delete extra vertices, but there are more times that I want to keep extra vertices.

We won't see any fix to this soon. Nothing is every resolved with bugs/issues in a timely manner. And this was reported back in U4???? We are at release 16.2 now and still no movement on this matter!!!!
