Connect Edition - Thoughts?

So far, I've avoided installing any of the CE versions though I am tempted to do so to see how it compares to V8i possible to replace it however, I have noticed from this forum that there many posts about problems with it so I'm beginning to wonder just how bad is it? Looking to hear opinions from those who use it each day.

  • It's not too bad. OK overall I would say. Still not as quick as SS4 though, and still a number of little things that don't work!

I'm the only one in our office using it at the moment, mainly because SS4 does what we need and also the fact the others are using other programs.
  • Hi
    I really like it.
It has more bugs than v8i, but this is getting better for every update. At this point i rearly ever use v8i any more and i prefare the connect edition for several reasons. It is 64bit and can handle alot larger geometrys ( once the geometry has been loaded in to MS ), it has some new tools and workflows. And i prefare the ribbon and the pop up menus etc in connect edition after having gotten used to them.

Once you get over the shock, its actually very nice to use. there are some productivity issues ie learning new shortcuts, but in general its a nice tool.

Depending on what you normally do inside MS, you can add greater functionality ie

    Items
    Reports
    Tables
    Display Rules
    Parametric modelling 2d and 3d
    Sheet Indexing
    Print Organizer
    Explorer
    DWG 2017 support

A big one for me is the Workspace & Worksets, once you get your head around them its very powerful

You know what Ian I don't use any of those tools listed. Did try them as part of the EAP but found no real benefit, as some we just wouldn't use, some need more work before becoming useful and some we can't use ans we don't work with worksets.

If I were you, I would try them and see what they can do, even worksets. All of the above actually improve productivity and beyond

Items - Used to add data to items so that we can report on them, change their colours etc , ie fire rating, Door IDs.
Reports - Used to produce quantity take off, areas etc
Tables - Place the report data in tables, export direct to excel
Display Rules - Used in conjunction with above to enhance level overrides ie show in red all fire rating walls
Parametric modelling 2d and 3d - Cells on steroids
    Sheet Indexing - Amazing tools
Print Organizer - Use with Sheet indexing is a must very powerful
Explorer - - great options now in CE
    DWG 2017 support
