Microstation Version 08.11.09.829 Pre-requisites.

When I have previously installed new versions or upgrades of Microstation, at least when installing on a new computer, I have had to get and install a Pre-requisite pack with  the Microstation program. When I have looked for a download of Version 08.11.09.829 I have not seen a pre-requisite pack offered.

Is it not necessary now or can I use an earlier version of the pre-requites which I have on DVD, or how do I get the files?

It's still necessary, even for the new CONNECT Edition. Prerequisite Pack contains not MicroStation functionality, but Windows updates, that MicroStation depends on. So it has to be ensured these updates will be installed before MicroStation. In fact, if your Windows are fully updated, the prerequisity pack installer just checks you have rights versions and probably will install nothing.

As José wrote, newer MicroStation versions don't require separate prerequisities installer. But I slightly disagree with the used formulation This version comes with the prerequisite inside. The prerequisities are not included (it would make MicroStation installation file substantially bigger), but the installer is able to check what modules need to be updated and download them and install automatically as a part of MicroStation installation. It of course mean you have to be online when you install MicroStation.

    I guess not.

If you know you will be online during MicroStation installation, you don't have to take care about the prerequisities anymore.

If you want to install MicroStation to computer that is not connected to Internet or you want to archive full installation without external dependencies, you can create Deployment Image, which is one option offered by MicroStation installer. The deployment image is a collection of all files required for installation, so such folder contains everything in a standard MicroStation installation plus all downloadable files.

  • Just to continue with the great details provided by Jan Slegr in relation to the Prerequisites for MicroStation, here is link to the MicroStation V8i Deployment Guide. This is actually included in the ReadMe document that comes with each download.

  • Thank you Andrew.
I expect to be loading V8i Version 08.11.09.829 on my present Windows 8.1 computer after I upgrade it to Windows 10 and your link will assist me to do that, but I don't expect to renew my Select Subscription next year, having been mostly out of work for 2 or 3 years. If I have to replace my pc when I'm not a Select Subscriber, how would I go about loading the Prerequisites and the Microstation files?
    Regards Phil Leach.
  • Once you've created a Deployment Image all of the Prerequisites would have been downloaded and be located in the folder they were downloaded into.

  • Hello again Andrew.
To add to my previous reply to you, what I would like if it's possible is a disk or usb stick with Prerequisites on it and a disc or stick with Microstation on it for a version of Microstation V8i that will run on Windows 10, which I understand is Version 08.11.09.829 - so that I can load another pc if this one has to be replaced before I retire.
    Regards Phil Leach.
  • I'm sorry Andrew.
I sent a second reply to your first answer before I realised you had answered my reply. Would a Deployment Image of all the Prerequisites have all the prerequisite files I would need when I don't have Select access, and would it be obvious how to create it using the Download button on the first reply you sent me?
    Regards and thanks Phil Leach.

If you install MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 4) and have a good internet connection with no issues, the pre and post requisites that are required will be downloaded to your local drive. Usually, this would be in the folder:

    C:\BentleyDownloads\MicroStation_08.11.09.829

Here you should see a full list of the MSI files used during the installation. This does not necessarily have every prerequisite as many of the specific Microsoft items would have already been installed.

Whether you read through the Deployment Guide from the link I already provided or that which is available in the ReadMe file supplied with the downloaded software, you can see instructions for creating this image with all Pre and Post Requisites.

  • Thank you for your help Andrew.
I'll have to upgrade my computer to Windows 10 before I start to try these instructions - with my son-in-law beside me because he's much more competent with computers than I am. I can use Microstation and have earned my living with it for 18 or 20 years but I'm not at all comfortable with the workings of the computer itself.
    Regards and thanks again.
