Node-Locked/Non-Select licenses

Next year I expect not to take out my long standing Bentley Select subscription because I have been out of work for a long time and can't afford it and I would like to convert my license for MicroStation Version 08.11.09.829 to a Node Locked/Non-Select license. However when I look at the Bentley page I get when I search Edge or Google Chrome with the search heading 'Bentley Systems Non-Select licenses' under the first listing 'Activating as a Non Select or Node Locked user [TN] - Licensing...'  (which you might or might not open with the following link - I'm not sure if it is functioning properly as a link)

https://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/5278/activating-as-a-non-select-or-node-locked-user-tn

not far from the top is the sentence 'All version 8.9 or newer software is activated against a SELECTserver license server.'

Does that mean what I interpret it to mean, that I can't change the license of my version of MicroStation to a Node-Locked/Non-Select license or have I misinterpreted it?

  • Hello,
When you read the article further, there is this:

"Your Products need to connect SELECTserver OnLine in order to authenticate and check-out your license. Once the check-out is successful, you will not need to keep a connection to SELECTserver OnLine.

In order to activate and check-out a license you will need to enter an activation key and server name into the product when it starts up after installation, then continue with a license check-out.  This will remove the license from SELECTserver OnLine and make it available on the machine on which you performed the check-out.  Once again, this machine will no longer need to connect to SELECTserver OnLine until you need to renew it or move it to another machine."
    I hope this explains it.

  • Thank you very much for replying to me Anu, but I am not sure if the statement you quoted overrides the statement I originally quoted, that 'All version 8.9 or newer software is activated against a SELECTserver license server' and Bentley will allow me to license Version 08.11.09.829 with a Node-Locked/Non-Select license.

Would someone within the Bentley Systems company please confirm for me if I can licence Version 08.11.09.829 with a Node-Locked/Non-Select Licence and without continuing to be a Select subscriber?

And can someone please tell me

    - how to go about getting a Site Activation Key for a Node-Locked/Non-Select License,

    - whether I would tick the 'Use HTTPS (SSL)' box in the third Product Activation Wizard information input window and whether I would press the 'Proxy" and 'Test Connection' buttons (both immediately beneath where the Site Activation Key is put in and

    - in the last information window, whether I would tick the 'Use a checked out license' box above my email address?

    Thank you for your assistance.

AFAIK that's to do with Internet security during the licensing process and has nothing to do with the license itself

That concerns your local Internet configuration, and whether a proxy connection is required to leap over a local firewall

That checks to find if the Bentley Systems server is visible to the licensing software.  If the connection fails you'll never get a license
