I'm signed in to the Connection client but Microstation Connect edition update 5 does not recognise that I am and when I try and run the connect advisor it hangs.

Hi Duncan,
what do expect to see in the Connection Client when you are connected? According to the screenshot all seems ok (10.00.07.30 is the version of the connection client you have actually installed)

Problem is that Microstation doesn't seem to realise that I'm logged in. If I try and run the Connect advisor it tells me I need to log in but I already am and then it crashes.

Your logs were reviewed and it looks like something is seriously wrong with your CC installation.
Development recommendation was to uninstall CONNECTION CLIENT, delete the .db files and logs and reinstall CONNECTION CLIENT again.
Let us know if that resolves the issue

Just had a chance to try this. . . Still the same problem.

New logs should have been created after uninstall/reinstall and deletion of .db files and logs. Please upload the new logs created.
