You are right.

If you do not name your sheet correctly with a full name. Sadly sheet indexing is a waste of time and effort. See below

These are 3 sheets I have managed to index, it automatically added 001, 2 and 3. Nothing to do with the actual file name. I cannot see the original name from the index.

Below is a typical sheet file naming convention. Other users will vary........ but I believe Bentley users all follow a similar process

This is what should be displayed in the index.........

Thus if a user saw this, they would close it and NEVER use it again.

Wouldn't it be really nice if you could edit the sheet name in the Index, and push those changes back to the design files?

We're light years away from using Connect anything, but the Index sounds like something I'd like to play with whenever we do get around to it. I can foresee issues with the way we do things here...Often sheets are copied from one to the other to the other, and not everyone (myself included) always takes the extra time to change all the sheet names along the way. We end up with a bunch of "Plan" sheets, and a bunch of erosion control sheets called "Plan" and a bunch of pavement marking sheets called 'Plan" - you can see where this goes. The file names are all different, which helps some, but sheet/model names would be most easier to tailor to some useful description. While Index sounds like a nifty little option, it's not going to do us much good without a solid naming structure under our belts. Some kind of single location to list and edit our sheets would be very helpful, but that doesn't appear to be part of the Index function.
I tried playing with this sort of thing in VBA a while back, and quickly got in over my head (I'm not even sure it is possible to have that kind of interactive dialog working on a range of files).

Or am I confused and reading too much into the (potential of the) Index function?
