Cell LIbrary: [NONE]

I seem to remember a time when I opened the Cell Library and it was populated with cells. Now when I open the Cell Library I see nothing. (see image)

Is there a way for the Cell Library dialog box to show a specific cell library when I open it?

Thank you

  • You need to add a configuration variable to your workspace MS_CELL and point to the location of your cell libraries. I am not sure if the the order in which they are listed will determine which one is loaded initially by default.

    Microstation CONNECT - 10.17.2.61

    ORD - 2021 R1 10.10.1.3

    ORD 2022 R1.1 - 10.11.3.2

    ORD 2022 R3 -  10.12.2.4

    Microstation v8i SS 10 - 08.11.09.919

    Power InRoads v8i - 08.11.09.615

    ProjectWise - 10.0.3.453

  • You can attach any Cell library from any location you want, by just going to the pull-down "File" and clicking "Attach". You don't have a Cell Library attached to the file, that's why it says "Cell Library: [None}", and you can only have one attached to the file. Once you attach it, to keep it attached (after you close, and reopen the file), you have to "Save Settings". It will stay attached as long as the .cel file is not moved, or renamed.

    Setting the MS_CELL variable that Mike was telling you about will help. It tells M-Sta. where to look for Cell Libraries. There is also a MS_CELLLIST that "if defined" will list all the cells defined in the variable (i.e. MS_CELLLIST = c:\my\cell\*.cel), under the "File" pull-down in the Cell dialog, and all the cells in those files can be displayed, if you check the "Display All Cells in Path" option.

  • Thank you mwlong and George Martin, I didn't realize that if I saved settings the cell library would stay attached, good thing to know. mwlong, I found out that the pcf was pointing to a specific cell library (MS_CELL). Would there be a way for me to set a different cell library? I tried manipulating my ucf but the cell library that the pcf was pointing to would always show up.

    Thanks again gentlemen!

    Edit your User Configuration File (.ucf) with a plain text editor such as Windows Notepad.  Is configuration variable MS_CELL already defined in there?  If so, edit the value.  If not, add a new definition for that variable.  Something like this...

    MS_CELL = //ServerName/TopFolder/path-to-your-cell-libraries/

    or

    MS_CELL = N:/TopFolder/path-to-your-cell-libraries/

    Where N is your networked drive letter.

  • Jon's answer should work, but if it will still not change. This MS_CELL variable may be locked at a higher level, than the User (UCF). It may be set and locked at the higher level, (Project/Site/Application), because they don't want the user to set if differently. If you open the Workspace > Configuration dialog, look for that variable and see if the Variable has been Locked (L).

    I am not sure how much you know about configurations....  but just in case you do....

    If you want the list of cells to appear when you press the File menu within the Cell Library.  This is where the MS_CELLLIST variable comes into play.

    You have 3 options as to where to place this.........

    Available to the whole company then you edit the Standards.cfg

    Available for a specific project then you edit the [ProjectName].pcf

    Available to a specific user then you edit their [username].ucf file (**** I would not advise this)

    It is possible to add the same variable to point to all 2

    MS_CELLLIST > $(_USTN_SITE)cell/*.cel
    MS_CELLLIST < $(MS_DEF)Resource/cells/*.cel

    Thus the projects ones appear at the top of the list, followed by the company ones

  • Also you can just drag and drop the cell librarie from the Windows Explorer to the cell dialog that is in your picture.

    If you activate Save Settings On Exit (Workspace > Preferences... > Operation, second from top), it will remember automatically.
