I have been trying to use display rules again but to be honest the quickest way I have found for changing the symbology of elements is to use 'bylevel' symbology. with Level Manager. If you levels and level attributes are set up correctly then bylevel seems to be the way to go. Display rules are also overly complicated to set up. If anyone has any help or suggestions for this then please shout.
Check the following link which has many use cases.
Display Rules - Graphics Display - MicroStation
Its more suited for analysis where you want to Show/Hide features based on certain conditions (property of an element, named group, view, model, reference, or file). You can also control the symbology and appearance of elements which is honored when printing.

Display rule are great. As Leonard mentioned they are much more than a simple Level override. example.. where I would use DR rather than Level OR
House count via cells. I use DR to change the colours of house types
Areas - I use DR to colour areas based on a range
Assets - I use DR to colour up walls based on fire rating
etc....
you cannot do this with level OR

Ian.You may well be right but I just never got them to work!!
I would suggest you either set these up in a project based DGNLIB or in an active dgn file. Do you know how to dot this?
I agree that Display Rules are great until such times as you hand over your drawing to the client and find that he cannot view the display rules do to the lack of a Connect viewer.
