I use multilines for district heating pipeline planning and add background filling to highlight the pipe trench. So far so good, works with all drawings/sheets. Each line is on a separate layer (trench sides, centerlines, pipes) so I can switch on/off whatever I need. The multiline itself is drawn on a separate layer, too.
Now I use that big mama drawing not only for detailing but also for overview purposes where I only want to show the main axis/trench centerline. By doing so I ensure that I don't miss any changes made to the pipeline route in the course of the project. Now if I hide all layers contained in the multiline the filling disappears, too. Great. As soon as I show one layer the filling shows, too. Is there any workaround other than removing the filling and drawing a polygon area with a length of over 5 kilometers? Linestyles are no option as they can only be assigned to one single layer.
In May I added an ideation to assign the multiline filling to a separate layer (among other things): https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/i/drafting_and_detailing/add_transparency_and_filling_with_hatching_to_multilines - so maybe it's already in the works. But for now I'd need an easy way out without having to draw anything twice.
work around ..create two views and give them view group names in one view say view one set the view attributes to FILL ON, and then create this as a named view group, now open view 2 turn off view 1, create set you view attributes to fill off, now create the new named view group and turn fill off and name it FILL OFF ... now you can toggle between views with the named groups.... I tried this with 2 views so it did work didnt try exrefs maybe the exrefs ...
updated since post 30 mns ago.....
did some more testing you can ref attach by view named groups so one can be with no fills...
alternatively ref attach it twice and set the view attributes flags on to have fills in one instant and on the other instance fills off just for your ref files then you can turn them on or off from the ref manager... ( this I havent tried)
can have named groups or different views with attributes on off... but here is my example named views.zip

Thanks for your input. Can I switch on fillings in one reference and off in the other reference in the same sheet model?
Hi,
Yes you can, make sure you have two copies of the same reference. Then click in wireframe or other display name your reference has. Then turn on view flag and then you can turn on the fill. Make the oposite on the other reference.
After that control your main display fill with view attributes [CTRL+B].
The result should be as expect. One reference with fill and another without fill. Independent of the main view display option.

Thanks Jose, that's a feasible workaround, not too much of a hassle.
so you mean attach the same reference twice using the flags which is what I suggested as my second alternative right? But not a duplicate of the ref making it two separate ref files right one with fill on and the other with fill off...?
Yes, that's what I did. That way it's always updated. So basically I use the same reference three times for different purposes: one for the drawing, one for the overview background and one for the overview of the course of the pipe trench without filling.
I guess if I used the named views I'd be limited to fillings switched either on or off in the overview reference. I couldn't have fillings switched on in the background (topography) and off in the foreground (multiline).
