Wireframe fades away and only appears when mouse is hovering over elements.

OK, I am an experienced user of Microstation and it is cumbersome to say the least, but with all the problems that comes with the package, there is one problem I have not been able to resolve at all. So i turn to the wider community for answers.

When in wireframe or transparent modelling, the dgn turns off lines in the background and only illuminates a small area around my pointer. This is brutally annoying, especially when you have cluttered, complex or large dgn's. All of the users I have asked would like to know how this can be turned off permanently!! Is there a switch to stop this madness!!

  • Hi Paul,

    What is OS?

    What is your Microstation version?

What is your graphic card? Nvidia?

I believe this is a graphic related problem. If Windows 10 and an old graphic, then you can't have old drivers as Windows won't let you do that. So the solution is to create a environment to make Microstation use only DX9 instead of any version ahead.

    You working in 3d?

Another possibility, this could be related to clip volume, clip front and/or back, check if they are turned off in View Attributes.

  • Hi Paul! You mentioned: "only illuminates a small area around my pointer"

Along with what José suggests you supply, could you provide a sample snapshot of the effect you are seeing. This might also be an issue with the lighting in a 3D model.

  • Hi Jose,

Thanks for the tip and what I have is an,

    Windows 7 with an i7 4790K with 12 Gig of RAM, NVidia 4GB GTX 1050 Ti with SLi, 2 x 30" Monitors and a 2TBHDD

    Microstation version Select Series 3.

Yes it rather annoying actually. I have the latest drivers installed and know I have enough power to not have problems. I thought it might be lighting so I installed too many lights to see if this would do anything and the problem persisted. I then looked at clip volumes and the presentation settings. If I keep or delete the clip = no change problem still there. If I change to WIREFRAME there is no problem really and it is still visible but really blurry. If I use WIREFRAME DWG the problem is at its worst. Strange. Other presentations have varied results depending on the geometry and complexity of the models. Everything is pointing towards lighting or graphics. If I use ILLUSTRATION: IGNORE LIGHTING there are ZERO problems. I am at a loss as to what is causing this.

  • Sorry George my reply was supposed to include yourself as well. Apologies.

I don't have time right now, but it would need a video really. We need to see the cursor moving to get the problem. I will get back soon.

Blurry wireframe doesn't sound good.  Can you supply a screenshot of a blurry wireframe view?

Problems with NVidia cards are aired sporadically on this Forum.  The problem is caused by NVidia software drivers.  Please post the driver version of your NVidia card.  The latest driver is not necessarily the appropriate one to use, and some people have fallen back to an earlier driver that is known to work.

Search this Forum for 'NVidia driver' to see many questions and answers on this topic.
