Microstation V8i (SELECTseries 4) - 'ALERT' - (file) is not a recognized file format

Could someone please inform me of a way to 'reformat' a file after being corrupted (if such a way exists)? I was working on a Microstation V8i (SELECTseries 4) drawing for the last couple days without being backed up. Then today, while working in the file, my colleague had opened the file as well, but this time, instead of saying something like, "File in use by another user, would you like to open as 'Read Only'?," he was allowed just to open the same file. It seems it may have been a network issue which would have allowed this to happen. Nonetheless, now the file seems corrupted and I would like to get my last two days worth of work back without having to redo it. Microstation Guru, please help if you're out there.

    I agree with to try the file as reference what you should try. If the file is corrupted a bit only, sometimes it's possible to access them as reference, because it's simpler comparing to opening for full read/write access.

    As wrote, Bentley don't provide any standalone DGN repair tool, but Axiom offers its FileFixer. Maybe somebody from around has this tool or you can try to contact Axiom whether they would be so kind and to try to repair the file for you.

  • Whatever you do do not contact Axiom unless you want constant phone calls from the sales reps hounding you to buy their product which, in my opinion, does not work. I had the software which they claim will repair/recover any file. I was never able to recover files. After we did not renew the software license the sales rep called at least once a month offering discounts to renew. I tell them every time to stop calling because we will not use the software as it does not work.

    FileFixer is extremely expensive initially and the yearly maintenance fees are outrageous. This is for a single license and it is constrained to one PC only.
