Is it possible to export DGN files that have item types ( connect edition ) in to DWG files with attributes?
I have a client that basically wants a navisworks review file with tags/ attributes. My first thought was that if i am able to convert my dgn with item types to dwg with block attributes this would work ( imodel or dgn with item types are also not compattible with navisworks ). But so far i have not found a way, the item types are lost when i save to dwg. Any ideas if this is possible or not ?
Using the latest vercion of Microstation Connect

Hi,
Unfortunately not with DWG or DGN. We had to develop a tool (VBA macro) that reported the element ids and corresponding item types to an excel spreadsheet to be used in the Navisworks Data Tools.

Realizing that a DWG attribute is part of a block, so if your item types are attached to cells, you should be able to save them as attributes. Also keep in mind that attributes are texts only, so non-text properties are dropped to text type and then turned into attributes. This might be OK for you though as DWG attributes are what you want anyway.
If your item types are attached to non-cell elements, maybe Mark's workaround can be a valid alternative?
Hi Don
Will your workflow work with any kind of cell ? ( If yes, i think this will work for me )

Since the only cell type DWG supports is shared cell, if you have normal cells they will be converted as shared cells when you save DGN as DWG. So, yes, both cell types are supported as far as item types are concerned.
Hi
I was morethinking about orphan cell ( geometry that has been grouped using good old ctrl+G) and then added item type .Would that also work?
