create links in callouts to open design file and in pdf to jump to a page

Can you add a hyperlink to a section callout that will not open a design file or model but once a pdf combined file is created the callout can be selected and jump to the page in the pdf set.

I know a client of ours is doing this with REVIT and it makes it really handy to jump back and forth through  their pdf documents.

go to a plan page select the elevation callout and bam it takes you to the page. Same for sections and details

  • Yes you can link to pdfs, I'm not sure about specific pages with  pre CE but definately pdf files can be linked to an object  even an active point can be used but it depends on which version of Mstn and which version of Adobe Acrobat reader is set to default as the  pdf association... no all versions of mstn can use all versions of  adobe reader, my V8i ss3  cannot  use anything  but adobe reader  to open pdfs on the fly.. and  if you give this to clients they have to be able to do the same path and have the same version compatability... but in house works well...

IMHO I belive bentley is always behind with the  latest  Adobe reader and will not  allow you to choose a different  reader as the association settings for pdf in windows... well that been my experience for the last 10 years...

    Anecdotal experience...

A few years ago  I created tens of  hundreds of links in several hundred dgn files to pdf reports  making the  cad files more interactive and  informative to the engineering and admin staffs at one of my  previous employers and it was wonderfully  received and acknowledged as great move forward.. at the time we had adobe reader 8 or 9 and  Mst V8iss3... after 1 year of it all working  perfectly, suddenly over night  without warning  it just stopped opening the links!

I thought it  might have been IT re-pathing drives and folders.. but it turned out that IT did a company wide  Adobe acrobat reader update to version 9 or 10 and  mstn no longer knew how to open the pdfs... after much heated dialog  with IT we ended up making  a virtual drive with virtual versions of  Bentley view and Adobe reader that were compatible with each other.. needless to say I lost a lot of good will with the  IT guys....but it worked without  changing all the links... I was even able to update the pdfs as long as the names and paths remained the same....

  • I'm not a fan of adobe reader or acrobat. We use Bluebeam revu and bluebeam Extreme. Extreme allows you to create links from page titles and finds all the callouts threw-out the set and and add links
