Assistance with tangent curves

Good day everyone,
I'm trying to draw up some curves for an alignment that is 900 ft in length. The beginning line segment is 100 ft while the ending line segment cannot be under 200 ft, both segments are parallel to one another and are offset 10 ft with the beginning segment on the right side. I need to draw two tangent curves between each line segments. I'm still new to Microstation and would appreciate any assistance anyone can give, thank you.

  • Hi David,

    Try this:

    1. Place a third line connect the two segments.
    2. Use the Place Arc (Start, End, Mid)
    3. With Tangent Point snap mode, snap to the end of the first line to define the start of the first arc.
    4. With Mid Point snap mode, snap to the mid point of the third line to define the end of the arc.
    5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 with the second line.
    6. Delete the third line

    Here a video tutorial:

    Regards,
    Ron

  • FYI:
The point of tangency between the two arcs will always fall upon the line connecting the segments, even if the arcs have differing radii.

  • And they will be tangent between them and to both straight lines at the same time? At least looks like so:
