Hello,
Attached is a file showing a coordinate gird which I created a long time ago in microstation. Right now, I am working in microstation v8i ss3 latest version on windows 10 os so the file was converted to msv8i ss3.
The file shows a coordinate grid is setup for cc83 harn/ca California State Plane Zone 2. I have been trying for a while now to create the remaining grid portion for Zone 2 in smaller portions since it will be a huge file put it always crashes.
I know that microstion map has a feature that can do this but fortunately I don’t have this software..
I have been trying to get this too work for a long time now but no luck.
I would appreciate if someone has some time if they can create for me the remaining portions in a dgn file so that I have a complete coordinate grid for my zone 2 exactly the way I have it.
If any further information is needed please let me know.
Thanks
Z2-PointGridArray2.dgn
FYI v8iss3 latest edition dont you mean the last edition of v8i ss3 as there is a more recent v8ss4.. no matter .. I'm using ss3
I would not do it this way ... I have a tool that will construct your grid with grid lines at specific interval in your active drawing by two points it doesnt require a reference file all you need is the macro tool and the inbuilt mstn Geographic coord system tool and find your datum..I could not find yours as I dont know enough about usa state planes
ist step open your active drawing you want the grid shown drawn on now set your GCS ( from tools geographic you can then pick the datum from list or search , fyi this should really be set in all your seed files) dont transform it...
now run the macro supplied and it will draw the required grid and annotate it at the required interval, by two points
ist define grid interval, next choose nw extremity , then south east extremity, BTW we use the sheet or print scale / 10 ie 1:500 would be an interval of 50 master units I work in meters but as you work in us survey feet there should be a convention even in USA for mapping...for intervals based on scale...

Regretfully its in Mstn basic but we as yet have not found anybody willing to make a vba replacement and make it public domain... this macro has been around since basic began and has had several rebuilds... its public domain so feel free to pass it around... no need for Bentley map , it works in all versions V8i as long as you have the real GCS defined from available list.. some early versions of v8i didnt have full lists for every country...
If you ever get it rebuilt to VBA please send me a copy as this can not run in CE. as no more basic from CE on wards....
The only other way I know to make it look like what you have already is to get it done in any GIS package and export to dgn.. but ?I prefer the grid lines and text at edges of drawing in actual drawing modle not a ref file its just a lot smaller and easier to do...

There's an updated VBA macro on our GeoGrid page. It works with both V8i and CONNECT.
Note that you can specify the level on which the grid lines are drawn. Create a Text Style that is right-aligned for the annotation. I've made it easier for you to change the label formatting, but you'll need a passing acquaintance with VBA (see modFormat).

Hey Jon
pretty good for first run it does draw the grid lines and spaced perfectly ....
However the text is not landing in right places and not all the right valuse ...the text need to be above the line so the eastings or verticals the text should be above the line and to the left, the northings I think is only getting the first vertical northing and easting and not the separate lines horizontally , ie they should increase by the interval down and to the left here in southern hemi.. I have attached result in dgn...compared with the old basic one.. I'm still running in v8i ss3 just in case that makes a difference... but I doubt it

Hi Steve
can you pm me I have a DOT version but it is an mdl and wont run in CE ...I can paste it in secure post via PM ( private message) click below my name in link to send me a PM as you have not enabled PM in your profile... the mdl may help you out until we have a working vba... it works the same as the basic macro did except it uses fence...and is compiled code and is copywrite of the DOT so you cant reverse engineer or modify it.... it is public domain but they want credit for their efforts which is fair enough by me....

Haven't I supplied a working VBA GeoGrid? You can download GeoGrid from the link I supplied previously. The VBA works in both V8 and CONNECT.
