Hello All,
Does anyone else see Text styles and the need for them to propagate the text justification out to the text element as problematic? Or maybe I am missing something. To me text justification should be a time of placement override. The text style can have a base justification but once it is changed on the text element or in the editor then it should be considered an override that is not changed by changing the text style. With its current implementation we are being told to create text styles for each justification. This takes us from 2 text styles to 18. I equate this to annotation scale and the need to not create a text style for every text scale, we know that isn't correct.
There has been past discussion around this and never an action.

Here is a video demonstrating the issue.
Another example would be to take a drawing that contains text without a text style and start applying text styles to them. Unless the drafter/design placed all the text with the correct justification your text will not be in the correct location. It would also be a very time consuming process to figure out what the justification is and then apply the correct text style (name_just) to it.
Thoughts? Am I missing something?
Thanks,John

What you should be able to do it setup a text style with the the majority of settings. Then within the place text dialog ie the 'Text Editor' to override the settings. see below. This will place the instance of text as per the dialog settings and not the text style.
It should be noted that if you match/update the text you need to turn OFF any setting you do not wish up update

I believe we are saying the same thing, I was only using the justification as an example as its the most glaring issue to me. The settings used at time of placement should be considered overrides on the element to a style. Changing those overrides should be an explicit action not something that is pushed out just by changing the style. There could be an option on the editor to revert to the style, thus blowing away all overrides. Same with "Change Text Attributes" command, it should respect the overrides.

yep
I do not like the way Bentley has gone with text parameters. It is yet another feature they have changed to make Microstation more like Autocrap. Sales being King. In Connect all adjustments to text parameters at time of placement can only be done thru the Text Style. Sucks, plain and simple. Unless a project is new, never click Save for a text style (unless you're creating something new).

These days there is an Ideas Forum where you can post suggestions for improvement.

Just so I understand the rules, what is the intent of a "Discussion"?
I am not sure I have formulated an entire idea just trying to see if I am missing something in the intended use or I am implementing something wrong at this point.
