We REALLY like to use reference files for our borders. Probably 95% of the text in our title blocks is the same from sheet to sheet across a project, with only a few items changing on a per sheet basis. With a reference file, any changes to that information takes place once, and show up correctly everywhere.
There are a few things that we'd like to have in the border reference that could "read" the properties of the active model - things like sheet name and sheet number. I'd like to know if Text Fields can accomplish that. My initial attempts are not promising, but I may well be missing a variable or setting somewhere.
Also, can I place a field that can be linked to a file other than my active file? I have hundreds of match lines, all of which need to read "See Sheet ##" where ## is the number of the corresponding sheet. This is a NIGHTMARE to keep updated by hand. Is this something that we could use Fields for? Could you please explain that procedure? If not Fields, is there any other way to "manage" all these sheet callouts?
I haven't worked on a job of this size in well over a decade, and I'm interested to learn what technological advances have taken place that might make the task simpler.Thank you.
