BENTLEY... URGENT URGENT URGENT
This has been raised many times by many people in this forum, including myself
We are now at CE9 and this is STILL AN ISSUE
I have many clients that I am trying to get to use CONNECT....
They are ALL saying........
WE CANNOT USE CONNECT because it is SO SO SO SO SLOW. Their same files in V8i are super fast.
If you compare CE to V8i... users will opt for V8i every time, V8i is literally is a fraction of time. User cannot and will not wait for 2-5 minutes to open the software, they will not wait to open another dgn file. So not matter how hard we try to convince them CE is the way forward... they simply say NO.
THIS IS NOW A CRITICAL ISSUE and BENTLEY you seriously need to get this FIXED ASAP.
As I mentioned we are now at CE9 and this issue is still present.........its beyond a joke.
In my opinion... stop working on anything else and get the speed issue fixed or you will not have any users left to use it. Its only a matter of time before you lose them and they start using ACAD!!!!!!!

Some tools in CE works much faster. For example create region tool(see video).
On the other hand the tendency for years have been that program startup is slower and slower. Adding online resources at startup makes it even worse because now it waits also on HTTP reply. It should be like background task but for some reason it doesn't work like that. Similar is when attaching WMS from slow WMS server it freezes until the WMS is loaded but it shouldn't be so. For example executing a key-in scripts which places lines and text now the same script take much longer time with each new version:
Running specific key-in script in CE:
Normal - ~420sec
View minimized/accudraw closed - 280sec
in V8i SS3:
Normal - ~270sec
View minimized – 152sec
Accudraw and tools closed - 70sec
In v8 XM:
Normal(with or without accudraw) - ~115sec
View minimized – 95sec
In v8 2004:
Normal(with or without accudraw) - ~52sec
View minimized – 42sec
Mainly it shows how responsive is GUI as these key-ins are using standard tools.
otto I found the example you used was very good for the create region demo , in v8i if I use a slighlty different work flow if it crashes the conventional way......
First create a rectangle that encloses the overall shape then use the create region with locate interior and place it out side the shapes but in side the rectangle, works even better if turn off text now you have a reverse shape turn off all the little shapes layer and use the create region flood on the inside no locates and dont keep origianal, I use this method when v8i cant handle the problem and crashed like your example...
I thought to let others know about the reverse process even if they use CE its an interesting work around that gets me out of trouble often....

Yes I have also used that trick. No need for second flood just use drop complex and drop the grouped hole.
