CONNECT SPEED - Users are STOP using CE

BENTLEY... URGENT URGENT URGENT

This has been raised many times by many people in this forum, including myself

We are now at CE9 and this is STILL AN ISSUE

I have many clients that I am trying to get to use CONNECT....

They are ALL saying........

WE CANNOT USE CONNECT because it is SO SO SO SO SLOW.  Their same files in V8i are super fast.

  • CE opening times are a horendous
  • File Navigation is a horendous

If you compare CE to V8i... users will opt for V8i every time, V8i is literally is a fraction of time.  User cannot and will not wait for 2-5 minutes to open the software, they will not wait to open another dgn file.  So not matter how hard we try to convince them CE is the way forward... they simply say NO.

THIS IS NOW A CRITICAL ISSUE and BENTLEY you seriously need to get this FIXED ASAP.

As I mentioned we are now at CE9 and this issue is still present.........its beyond a joke.

In my opinion... stop working on anything else and get the speed issue fixed or you will not have any users left to use it.  Its only a matter of time before you lose them and they start using ACAD!!!!!!!

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hello Everyone,

As an update to all of you from the input we received here on our Bentley Communities forum, in particular, this thread, we’ve identified a few areas that have been a cause of performance issues with MicroStation CONNECT Edition for some users.   These areas are being targeted to be addressed in MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 10:

    • Backstage performance when switching from the Work Area to the BackStage with files with a large number of models.
    • Slowness when opening MicroStation with a large number of WorkSets.

We understand this does not address all of the issues that have been brought to our attention, but we are committed to making MicroStation CONNECT Edition more efficient as we will continue working on optimizing and improving performance issue in future updates of MicroStation CONNECT Edition  We look forward to your feedback once we have MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 10 released.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Hi Dan,

We appreciate the help.  I have all 2d drawings with only one model and "No Workset".  Often I can open a file with Mstn Connect (right click, open with..), open a second file with Mstn v8i (right click, open with), read the one note that I need to look at, and close Mstn v8i before Connect has finished loading!  Then when I close Mstn v8i, both windows instantly close and I'm done.  When I close Mstn Connect, the second window closes, the program pauses, then finally the first window closes.

It's frustrating because I complained about this in the very first beta version and was blown off and/or handed excuses.  I am still in a state of limbo, because I can not justify upgrading the office to the slower version with an interface that none of us like.  We don't even have an option to use a pull-down menu interface similar to v8i.  Now I am starting to get DWG files that are too new for v8i, and I am converting them with AutoDesk's TrueView, or with Mstn Connect to a format that v8i can read.

I've seen rumors about Microsoft not focusing on their "Windows" OS and turning to other things.  I hope that Bentley will stop focusing on following Microsoft and will go back to providing a fast and solid platform.

Sorry about drifting off topic, but the point is that the speed issue needs to be corrected, and more than just a band-aid for certain cases.

  • It's slow and it's buggy!

My speed improved quite a bit after I set up workspace(s) and some worksets within each. I also found defining several key configuration variables helped as well. The other thing I did was set-up a batch process to add files to their appropriate worksets.

I've been using since version 4 (Intergraph before that) and I've never been this disappointed. For me it's the bugs more that the speed, although raster references still seem to be a real chore. Really hoping Bentley can get this thing sorted out, they must be in a near panic. Guessing it was bad decisions right form the top over how to implement the 64 bit version.

I'm getting along much better than I was 6 weeks ago, although twice I've delivered documents to clients with stuff missing, this never happened before.

  • "I also found defining several key configuration variables helped as well."

Bob, can you elaborate on what those key configuration variables are?

  • Not really, I'm a one man show here, try Bentley.

But I will try ,here as my user level variables, not all will pertain to others. Some of these could even cause issues on your set-up.

  • Here are my user level variables

I don't think that MS_UCM is any use with MicroStation CONNECT.  User Command Macros (UCMs) are not supported.

  • Well you're half right, that variable does nothing, but the user commands still work fine in Connect R9.
