Connect- problems w/View Groups, FunctionKeys, Drawing composition

Hello fellow Connect users! Using Connect r9 for a month or so now. Endless problems, service tickets, forum posts, still need v8i on occasion. But things are slowly getting better, modifying my workflow a bit, the usual software change business.

Today I'd like to run 3 issues by you, all input welcome.

1. View Groups, don't like 'em, don't use 'em, tried it, not for me. I know these were there in earlier Microstation, but I never had to mess with them. Recently had a couple jobs where I renamed models, copied models (sheets), then when I printed from PO, got errors, would not complete. I was able to use manage view groups, to get things straightened out, never had to mess with them before. Is there a way to just disable, turn off, or otherwise get my workspace to not use the darn things.

2. Once in a while Connect defaults to it's system function key menu, ignoring my user defined menu (defined in configuration variables). Exiting and reopen file, it's fine. Only happens occasionally and I never know until I click Alt|F4 which by default exits the file instead of my fit all command.

3. Whenever I attached a reference, usually a design (default) model, Microstation places a "Drawing Composition" element in my file (usually a sheet). Just plain annoying, I understand what it is, I don't use that process in my workflow, would like to disable, turn off, or otherwise get rid of it (off course I can delete it).

Thanks for your comments!

    What were the errors you were getting. If you have a pset loaded in the print organizer and delete or rename a view group that may cause errors. Regarding disabling the use there are capability variables that you may want to use in your Workspace:

    ignoring my user defined menu (defined in configuration variables)

    In which configuration file and which configuration variable are you using to setup your function keys.

    The 2 variables of interest would be MS_FKEYMNU AND MS_FKEYMNUSEED.

    Not quite understanding the issue could you post a sample file where this occurs?

  • I must say folks, this stuff is wearing me out. Connect is bad stuff and Bentley knows. They are really good at applying the run around. I pay close to $1000 a year for the privileged, plus the original investment. Never been disappointed like this in my 30 or whatever years (ver.4) I've been using Microstation.

    Regarding disabling the use there are capability variables that you may want to use in your Workspace:

    Where are these? The error I get makes no sense, I have at least found a workaround.

    Don't understand? I thought this was normal Microstation behavior. Open the attached file, go to the sheet model, attach same file, base model, find it, move it, clip it, fit all. Create selection set across the apparently void portion of the screen, you should get one element, a Drawing Link. You can delete it, it asks if you want to retain the reference. Annoying and useless.

    The 2 variables of interest would be MS_FKEYMNU AND MS_FKEYMNUSEED.

    This is a plain old defect. Here are your variables, the one in Org....\data is mine, the other is default;

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\Organization\Data\fkey.mnu

    $(_USTN_SYSTEMROOT)Data\funckey.mnu

    File1.dgn;

  • Hi Bob,

    I not clear on what you meant.

    Create selection set across the apparently void portion of the screen, you should get one element, a Drawing Link. You can delete it, it asks if you want to retain the reference

    Where is the void portion of the screen that you are creating this selection set from? Could you provide further information on this?
