Placing a known number of cells in a given area.

Hello,

I am attempting to place a specific number of cells in an area.  (I.E.  I need to place 10 plant cells in a 500 sf area).  Note this would be simple if the beds where orthogonal, but why would a landscaper want to do that right?  Grin

I have attempted using draw cell by area, feature and group but these are not meeting my specification.  These all are dependent on either row spacing, an increment or offset.  I'm not sure if there is anything that is this random available.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

  • You may be interested in the populate area tool.

You may not be able to control the exact number of plants placed but you can see the example below to see if you can use it to accomplish what you're trying to do.

Note that you need 2 elements a mesh/surface and a shape to define the area to populate on that mesh/surface.

  • I haven't tried this yet, but  you know the density  10 plants  per 500 sf , or 1 plant  per  50 sq ft so cant  you use the area patterning tool and work it so it does it  or create a pattern cell that does... it should keep its density  now place area pattern in your 500 sf polygon and it should work out pretty close and you can fudge the extras or remove the extras...or alternative turn on the grid from view attributes and set the grid to match your needed density root 50 x root 50 and place a plant cell via the grid lock at each grid intersection

  • ....OOPS MY  BAD...

should have been 1/ root 50 by 1/root 50 for the grid spacing....
