Here's a challenging task: when using key-ins or function key for "Copy Parallel" command, is there a way to make the cursor automatically go to the "Specify Distance" box (see attached image). Normally I have to use Tab key twice to get to this box. This is a potentially time saving step!
I added “set item toolsettings distance=value” to key-in but you can only pre-set a number. For the project I work on, the number constantly change. Thanks in advance!
Even more time saving, use Accudraw and enter the value there so you don't have to worry about the distance box.

Thanks for replying, Mary. How do you do that? Just a simple copy on Accudraw and use Base Rotation? Seems like it's not the same as copy parallel/offset though when you line segments. I like the Copy Parallel function as it remembers the previous setting so I can use it multiple times.
If you have the same distance over and over, then the distance box on the Copy Parallel tool works well. You said the distance keeps changing, so I suggested Accudraw.
You can use Accudraw with the Copy Parallel tool - have you tried it? Click the copy parallel tool, pick your element and move your cursor in the direction you want to go. When your accudraw axis is highlighted, just type in the number for your distance. Accudraw even has a "sticky" value, so that you can continue copying parallel at that distance until you're finished.
Got it, just need to uncheck the Specify Distance box when using Accudraw, thank you! That will work.... Appreciate it!
Happy to help :-)
