Use of WFS (Web Feature Service)

Hi Folks

Quick question from Product Management of Web Feature Service (WFS), which is essentially has similar functionality to WMS but with simple vectors instead of rasters.

How many of you would like to see this in MicroStation? It is currently in Bentley Map.

Thanks,

Samir Haque

  • Hi Samir,

May i know if the above feature opening WFS in MicroStation is available now? If so, please let me know in which version. We are desperately waiting Bentley to provide this feature.

  • We are working on it. Planning on a U15 release.

As Samir has mentioned, our development team are working on this for a possible Update 15 release. Update 14 has only recently been released so this would be at least 6 months.

  • Now it's almost November 2021. Are there any new news about when, if ever, MS will be able to support OGC WFS?

I'm new to this MS world, but coming from the surrounding GIS universe, the lack of proper support for these services is a real bummer. I am really, really surprised to read that this apparently hasn't been a priority many years ago. Non-adapting strategies like this doesn't work in the real world.

  • Claus as your new to mstn are you aware of 2 features?

    1. Ability to attach / turn on off Bing Maps either photo or roadmap or hybrid?

    2. Integration with Google earth pro installed to use msnt  tools  to swap out to google earth and   and  follow or sync with your microstation view and also click on a point in microstation and see that point in Google map view.. I use this confirm survey sign posts faces that havent been documented  ie just a sign no detail ie 50kmp or no parking etc also great to confirm type of kerb or is there a driveway etc here

These are amongst my favourite tools and great cost savers for free!

I would love to see or  have WFS/ WMS to google map as bing here is not as good resolution or coverage as Google Map or google earth...

I had this Google map wms in QGIS so would be great if Bentley  could give us a tool to add it on or the settings to add it to WFS or WMS server like QGIS does../ has done...

No, I didn't know of these possibilities, but this is not what I seek. I'm supporting Utility companies and other, who wants to take advance of the many WFS service we have available here in Denmark - we're so lucky that all public data are free and everybody therefore are very aware of their existence and wants to use them in all kind of scenarios. I was asked to provide a WFS of our 'height curves' that they will use in different engineering tasks. Luckily there are also WMS'es for the data in question, but they can't use snap and stuff, but they'll manage, I hope ...

  • Have you tried these WFS in Bentley Map? If it is supported poorly in Map then it will be not usable in MS anyway.

  • Hi Oto

    Thank you for replying.

No, I haven't had a go with Bentley Map yet, I was only asked to try to get it work in MS, because this is what the customer is using. Bentley Map looks like a completely different product, but eventually I'll have to take a deeper dive into it.

My problems were kind of solved, when I found a WMS service that will do the job, but the MS implementation of connection to at WMS 1.3 seems not to be as easy-peasy like the ones in common GIS applications like e.g. QGIS. This will probably be another thread, I'll be asking new questions in, I think.

For now, greetings from the mudbanks on the outskirts of the Baltic Sea, and have a nice weekend :-)
