In V8i you could use the group hole tool to select multiple shapes (*** Ctrl held down) and then get the combined area. This does not appear to work any longer in Connect U10. Is there another method for doing this?
Hi Duncan,

This continue to work at least on this side. Maybe you've change the Element Selection mode without knowing it?
The elements are really shapes? Sometimes they look like shapes but in reality they are line strings.

Yes, use the Element Selection with this:
This way you can select your elements one by one and when you have all the desired selection find the sum of areas.

Hi Jose. I probably wasn't clear enough. I want to use the insert field command in the text editor to label the areas. You used to be able to do multiple areas by making them a group hole. This doesn't work anymore.

I think the rules on grouped hole creation have changed in CONNECT. Search this Forum for comments by Brien Bastings.

Well remembered. I found it

However there was no solution. Anyone from Bentley want to suggest how we annotate multiple area shapes as one.
How were you inserting a field and getting the area of multiple shapes in V8i. I just tried this and was not able to do it successfully. Grouping the shapes, put them into a cell definition, but the resulting area calculation was incorrect.

Hold down the Ctrl key. Select multiple shapes. Click off in space. Then use the insert field command as normal.

that workflow does not work. Ctrl and select will allow me to pick multiple shapes and if I click off in space (with Ctrl key) the selection remains. I then open the wordprocessor and select insert field, with element properties selected, but it still wants me to pick an element - even though the selection set is highlighted.
Did you watch the video? That proves it works.
that was not posted before I replied.
I just tried that workflow - ok got it to work
