Doh! As simple as that. Thanks very much Karl, i was looking in the wrong place and assuming it would be the FORMAT / JUSTIFICATION toggle on the left of your screenshot.

But does it work properly with multiline text  if you want it to look like a stamp with a back ground fill and a single rectangular frame around all the text see previous posts  from HenryEduvie and me

I posted this about three years ago. The pictures didn't come through during ideation forum conversion but show exactly the above.

BTW in V8i ss10 I cant make text frame box text centre centre even from advanced and even from custom text style.. the text back ground fill works for just the text.

However it does draw the rectangular capsule around multiline text and it expands to suit the text if edited and the text only has the back ground fill but the box around the text doesnt so still doesnt work very well as a stamp if there is stuff behind...especially bad  if used for multiline.. but single line big block tex like FOR CONSTRUCTION or DRAFT works pretty well... but still prefer my cells of stamps or tags text in title block...
