Is it possible to Cache 2D design models when they are referenced into a Drawing model? I know that you can for 3D models that are referenced into a Drawing model,is also possible for 2D?
Thanks
Oliver

Not sure what you're referring to. MicroStation caches raster attachments; it caches the results of certain rendering operations (e.g. visible edges). When you open a DGN model that has attachments, the model and those attachments are all loaded into your computer's memory. I'm not sure what caching would achieve. What are you hoping to accomplish?

Visible edge caching is only available with 3d model references. I do agree that it would be useful in referencing of any model. I would recommend you file an enhancement on this item or submit it as an idea to see if it gathers any interest.

yep
Hi,
It would be good to know what you would like to achieve by doing this.
1. Speed: If you switch between models or display Refs on/off a lot, you may want to check your Preferences.References settings
The default setting is off. You might want to turn it on if:
If you are working with ProjectWise, the Local Document Organiser should already ensure that there is a copy on your local drive to maximise loading speed. Getting a SSD drive is a good idea.
2. Freezing or copying a version of the graphics: I know that a lot engineers like to have a frozen background to work from. Have you tried generating a DV of the Refs? I suppose that the models will need to be 3d. DV's should process the '2d' elements, and the results can then be cached.
If this doesn't work, then maybe you could try inserting the dgn model as a Cell, using the Place Cell tool. The dgn model would have 'Can be placed as Cell' toggle ticked.
I guess you want to lock the contents of a reference fie in 2d mode, so that it never updates, even if the master files changes. As you mentioned in 3d this is possible via Dynamic Views. But in 2d model this is not possible.
One option you have is to set the reference file override model to NEVER, this means that the reference file can NEVER be different to its master file. Its not exactly what you want.
Or try what Dominic has suggested and start with a 3d file, create a DV from it ie plan and then cache the DV in the reference files dialog.
