[CONNECT] Annotate Point using Text Field with GCS

I've annotated a point using an associated text element that contains a text field:

Points annotated with text field

The text field displays the origin of the point.  Consequently, if you move the point then the coordinates update automatically.

Geographic Coordinate System (GCS)

The DGN model has a GCS attached.  How should I define the text field for the point named G to show latitude/longitude or eastings/northings?

    Further thoughts on this

There is a tool palette called XYZ Text that can be used to place points in x, y, z format in a variety of ways.

You can also change the format to y, x, z and relabel to be N= and E= for Northings and Eastings

But as far as I'm aware there is nothing that could display latitude and longitude

Are you thinking of an application that would display all the available coordinate readouts options and allow the user to choose what format the points are placed at?

I'm aware of that, of course.  However, the XYZ tool formats a label and creates a plain text element.  If subsequently you move that label (or the element with which it's associated) the coordinate doesn't change.

I'm asking about text fields in a text element.  You can associate a text field with a host.  When the host is moved, the field updates.  Try it with the DGN I provided in the original post!

Yes.  But I'm foxed by GCS coordinates.  If a DGN model is assigned a GCS, I don't see a way to link a text field to the GCS coordinates of an element.  That's the question I'm asking.

  • I don't think it's possible.

The GCS coordinates can be entered and displayed using the Auxiliary coordinate tools. In order for those to show up in text fields there would need to be a setting in the dialog to display the coordinates using an auxiliary coordinate system.

I can see where this would be very useful. Sounds like an enhancement/change request is in order.
