Mstn Connect Update 10 Enter Data Fields turning white

Hi,

In Microstation Connect Update 10, I am placing cells with "Enter Data Fields" in them.  When I enter information into an empty "Enter Data Field", it turns white.  When I edit an existing filled "Enter Data Field", it turns white. When I place a text with an "enter data field", it shows properly.  When I edit that text (edit single enter data field tool), the part of the text with the data field turns white.

This does not happen in Mstn V8i SS3.

Is there a setting that I am missing, or is this a bug?

  • Abhay,

I noticed the above issue of EDF turning white.  You mentioned the fix being available in upcoming release.  I am using Update 13 (Version 10.13.01.01).  This is the latest version at the Bentley site.  Is the resolution of the issue in the next update?

    Thanks.

  • After doing the latest MicroStation Connect update (Update 16) we have started having this issue with EnterDataFills that are not white in our Plan Title block cells turning white after text is put in them using the Fill In Single Data Field tool. However if the Edit Text tool is used and the underscores double clicked in the Text Editor, then the text will stay the original colour. Seems like something was changed in the recent update.

  • I'd file a service ticket and send Bentley the drawing (or a sample bit of the drawing).

Regressions are all too common, and the only way Bentley finds them is when we report them. They may get fixed, down the line. If this is a critical part of what you do, I would suggest going back to an earlier version that did work correctly.

  • Hi Matthew,

Instead of fixing Microstation, you now have to add a configuration variable to get it to work correctly:

    _USTN_RESET_EDF_COLOR_TO_MATCH_ADJOINING_TEXT=true

I am trying to withhold my negative comments about breaking Microstation, and then have then standard users add a configuration variable because Bentley changed something for a different user's condition.  The base functionality show be consistent and the change for the user should be done with the configuration variable.

  • It appears this issue was not able to be reproduced in Defect Report # 940664.

A new Bug Report # 661150 was raised for MicroStation CONNECT Edition 10.15.02.11 and was reproducible. This will be investigated by our development team for a fix in a future release.

As a part of the investigation the developers have temporarily introduced a new configuration variable  _USTN_RESET_EDF_COLOR_TO_MATCH_ADJOINING_TEXT that can be used in the mean time to remedy this issue.

  • Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the clarification.  The response from the support tech to my SR was,

"I have spoke with the developer on this issue and the variable "_USTN_RESET_EDF_COLOR_TO_MATCH_ADJOINING_TEXT" , this variable was added because the previous functionality was causing some breaking some other users workflows. So decision was made to allow the user to have the option be able to control this with a variable for the desired behavior they want. So while the default behavior was different in V8i; this is the behavior for this functionality going forward."

This was in a response to a SR created for Mstn CE 10.15.02.11 and the response was on 8/24/2021.  It's good to know that someone changed their minds and this is only a temporary fix.

  • So while the default behavior was different in V8i; this is the behavior for this functionality going forward.

    That's terrible!!!
So basically, "it used to work one way before, but we bother to keep that, and we aren't going to fix it..."

I too am glad to hear that the variable solution is a temporary fix. I don't use EDF often, but I still run across them in certain clients' files. I don't know what purpose it would serve to automatically change the color of an EDF; that sounds like a bug and not a "functionality".
