Advice on Largest Federated Models

Dear Forum,

Any advice on the largest Models/Federated Models that various Microstation Versions can handle?

i use both v8i and Connect and wondered if there were any advisories on sizes? Does it depends on Ram as v8i users i assume will mostly have more ram than the software can use anyhow.

Thoughts?

  • Is your Microstation V8i BIM compatible? https://lnkd.in/eJh9x36

    It's all in the packaging..

how V8i was installed, UAC and your local security policies.

Mind you I'd still persevere with CE, it crashes a lot less when opening large federated models..

I'd also recommend searching for files with the warning
    Large Level Name definitions..

I used to use to find offending CDE models .. remove dynamic sections, material defintions, excessive text & dim styles, excessive saved views, missing shape fonts and POD clouds etc..

To get rid of the warning you have to run compress design /incRefs and then click on the Done button.
Don't do it inside PW or with any references attached.
Once you get rid of LLND warning in a CDE model it behaves a lot better.. not as many system 136 errors
    (run out of system memory)

Anything that makes microstation fall into a bout of 'Not Responding' will make your nvidia card start to overheat.. if it reaches 105'C  > Microstation awakes and its attention if re-focused on  the missing GPU responses and it is Abort,Retry,Ignore time.
The LLND warnings are to blame for most bouts of 'Not Responding' in my experience.

Download  EVGA fan speed program if you can and see for your self.

    LLND => roach

    AH: Not sure...

AH: See this all the time, although have worked on it and searched for answers, ive never got rid of it or had definitive answer as to its reasoning and existence and how to remove its warnings...

I used to use to find offending CDE models .. remove dynamic sections, material defintions, excessive text & dim styles, excessive saved views, missing shape fonts and POD clouds etc..

AH: Agree,, removing these makes the model lighter, but where they exist as a Project Deliverable [Rightly or wrongly] i have to work with it...

To get rid of the warning you have to run compress design /incRefs and then click on the Done button.

AH: Cant run including refs on a Project you manage as Supplier Designs are locked...

AH: Even when i export the data and compress inc Refs, this warning does not go. If you can specifically indicate ho i can stop this warning then i can cascade this as info down the Project

AH: you think Crashing is to do with NVidia Card Heat rather than Memory usage and then paging once memory use is max'd?

The LLND warnings are to blame for most bouts of 'Not Responding' in my experience.

AH: As above, any sure fire way to remove these and im all ears...

Download  EVGA fan speed program if you can and see for your self.

AH: Alot of programs on there, which would i require?
