Creating a cell from a image (jpg)

What's the process in Microstation Connect?

  1. Create dgn
  2. attach raster
  3. copy raster into dgn (detach raster)
  4. create cell library file
  5. set cell origin
  6. create cell

I keep getting an error.... “Cell was not created”

  • Turns Out I Was Wrong- But I learned something today, thanks Lorys

I believe conventional cells can only be created from vector elements. You can get the raster in a model with place as cell enabled and place it that way, but you may not like the results. Perhaps someone has done this and can chime in.

  • The process should be the same as in v8i,  only  you need to use the copy paste option to make your image embedded in your cell.. your steps should be in CE

    1. Open Cell library of choice

    2. Create new model named cell name

    3. raster attach your image

    4. select your image

    5. Control C to copy image

6 . from edit use paste  or control v and mstn will choose the ole or image option

    7 .Detach raster

    8 test place cell works

or old school way in v8i

    1. attach cell library of choice

    2. attach raster

3 select image and copy wit control c

4.paste image as object or image with control V or edit menu paste

    5. detach raster

    6. Place fence around image

    7. From Cells pallet menu place cell origin

    8. from already open place cell menu dialog choose create and name your cell

    9 .done

    now test place cell works

  • Lorys,

Whenever I paste the image, it creates a copy of the raster.  Nothing is embedded.  I just have 2 raster attachments.  Any suggestions?

  • Did you use Paste or Paste special?

Make sure you use the last so that you can insert using OLE obejcts.

  • oops my  bad as Jose mentioned  you need to use ole from the paste special ... I thought I mentioned that from paste image or object but I left it out sorry.... things you do all the time are like I do it without thinking of all the steps...
