CONNECT EDITION: Upgrading Tag Sets to Item sets using the 'Upgrade Tag Sets' Utility - Will these retain their Projectwise Attribute exchange rules?

Hello,

We are using the CONNECT edition and with Tag sets being replaced with Item Sets when you use the upgrade Tag Set under the Item Sets > Utilities section will the new item sets retain the Projectwise attribute exchange?

We are using Tag sets within a Cell for the Drawing Borders and the information that populates these comes from Projectwise. Will this still be the case if I upgrade them? As a test I upgradede a Tag set and noticed that these now become fields - can I use Projectwise Administrator to populate fields from Projectwise?

I'm having a similar issue with the fields within the Detail/Section/Plan Bubbles when placing DV's I cannot get the fields to display the drawing number's correctly - Can i add an attribute to the design file that is populated from Projectwise that the field within the bubble can read?

I have been through the Microstation CONNECT edition for CAD managers : Design, Drawing and Sheet Composition but there is nothing regarding Projectwise Attribute exchange.

Many Thanks

Peter

  • Item Types

..with Tag sets being replaced with Item Sets..

First, those are Item Types (not Item Sets).

Second, Item Types do not replace tags.  Tags are deprecated in MicroStation CONNECT.  Bentley Systems would have us use Item Types in preference to tags.  Tags are not yet obsolete.

If starting a new project, then consider Item Types.  They provide more than tags, but as with all new techologies, caveat emptor.  For example, what about interoperability with AutoCAD?

will the new item sets retain the Projectwise attribute exchange?

Until Bentley Systems tell you that you can use Item Types for ProjectWise attribute exchange you should continue to use tags.

  • Many Thanks Jon - and apologies I do mean Item Types!

So the upgrade utility will NOT retain the attribute exchange so i will have to continue to use the existing Tag Sets. Just a note on that you say if I am starting a new job to consider item types but if there is no link with projectwise attributes then this will be a no starter? Or do you know another way of Item types being populated from Projectwise? i.e. Can I create Custom attributes in the Design File properties (General, Extended, Statistics, Workset properties etc -using an XML) that could be populated from Projectwise and then have the fields editor read them from there?

If projectwise is the source of data for drawing Numbers do you know of a way to integrate this with the field within the detail bubble on the DV call outs?

I'm no expert on ProjectWise.  Post those questions to the Content Management Forum.
