I want to dimension several widths and have it be a single dimension. I want to start from zero each time I click a data point. The picture below is what I do not want and I can't find the setting to change this behavior. Is it in the advanced tab of my Dimension Styles dialog?
you need to use the middle icon ( stacked) and it will always measure from the first point placed as the zero, or you can open the whole dime tool pallet and choose ordinate but it wont draw dim arrows its really good for xsections or graphs or cad cam setouts from zero point.

Linear stacked gives the same results only as shown on the right. I want them to look like the ones on the left.

as far as I know you cant in one single tool because it would look wrong ( as drafting standards are concerned) as an arrow would be missing from each dim and the text is in wrong place.. but if you insist use the method to make your rhs ( or as I have LHS) but here is how you do it use the middle line dime tool as normal then use the modify dimensions tool to move the leaders and text to where you want them before LHS move after moved RHS, but looks totally wrong to me where as LHS is clear and unambiguous ....and the way you want took three times as long to do...
Isn't it the first method on the Linear Dimension tool?

yep
This setting will change the way the dimension lines are drawn too.
if this was working like Patric wanted, your second dim would read 3.4554 and your 3rd dim would read 5.5894
as they should come from first datum line ...
Gotcha I missed that he was wanting a combination of an ordinate and linear dimension. I don't think what is desired is available in the software as it would kind of break general drafting rules.
