I use MICROSTATION V8i & I downloaded TEXT TO TEXT NODE CONVERSION Utility from the web. Can anyone assist me in implementing it into Microstation V8i as a permanent function (or even as a once-off function)?

Where did you download that utility?

What do you mean by a permanent function? For example, do you want to add it to a custom toolbox or function key?

Yes, Jon, I'd like to add it as a toolbox or function key, whichever easiest.

You've copied the txt2node.ma file to your \mdlapps folder, then key-in mdl load text2node?
txt2node.ma
\mdlapps
mdl load text2node
The documentation says: TXT2NODE is an application allowing text to be placed from a multiline text item. Apparently it shows an icon when loaded. Can't you copy that icon to your custom toolbox? Or copy the key-in to a function key?
Txt2Node_020706.exe was the file I downloaded & not a .ma file, as you suggested. Can you perhaps refer me to the correct app, please? I need to convert single line text (TEXT) to multiline text (TEXT NODE) - (as done in AutoCad). It's an external drawing (outside our company), where all the text are single line text...

Txt2Node_020706.exe is a ZIP package. When you double-click it in Windows explorer it unloads its contents to a \Downloads folder. In that folder you will find the MDL app. txt2node.ma and a readme file txt2node.htm. Copy txt2node.ma to your \MicroStation\mdlapps folder.
Txt2Node_020706.exe
\Downloads
txt2node.htm
\MicroStation\mdlapps

If you use MicroStation's text editor you can insert carriage-returns where you want in the text. The result will be a text node. That is, I don't see what the MDL app. can provide that is not already provided by MicroStation V8i. The app. was first written in 2002 before MicroStation's dialog text editor became available.
If I've misunderstood your question, please post a new question and attach a DGN file with some sample text that you would like to convert.
It worked like a charm - thank you so much, Jon. I haven't worked in Microstation for 11 years & things have changed quite a bit since then...!
just for interest why do you want text nodes... as they dont allow you to use other great stuff like copy increment text.. I'm forever trying to get rid of text nodes .. what am I missing?

It may be worth starting a new discussion with that question!
Not the OP, but I often create text nodes from numerous single lines of text such as general notes - they are much easier to deal with than 20 or more single lines. The method I use is to select each line in the order I want, select copy, open the test editor and paste. Voila! One multi line text note to a text node.
Oh of course, but that's a fault of theBentley text editor word processor being so bad and hard to use, well maybe just fiddley how do you do indents, bullet point numbering etc..... I use ms word to do the fancy stuff formatting and past into word processor editor in msnt... but as you said we don't think the original poster was wanting text nodes for that reason... but still good tip Bill...its going in my book of mstn tricks...
