[Connect U11] Named presentations and clip volumes

Should named presentations work with clip volumes?

I have a door panel in 3d that is set to show only in an isometric view but still shows in a top view with a clip volume applied.

  • Yes, Named Presentation should work with Clip Volumes. At present only Named Presentations  Model, Top and Front are working fine and not rest of the others...we have a Defect-803583 reported earlier to track down this issue.

  • Thanks Dinesh. I really like the functionality that named presentations should provide but it seems very glitchy and unpredictable.

  • Marco,

I am also finding NP's very buggy... to the point that it is not clear how we are supposed to use them.

    1. Some vids showing what the proposed workflow looks like would be very helpful.

    2. Hopefully, there will be an interim build before U12. It will be difficult to 'debug' the tool without a reasonably working build to test drive.

  • Yep agree totally with this. I was hoping to set up a test file to demonstrate how NPs would work in conjunction with perforators but it's just to buggy and unpredictable to even attempt that at the moment. I love what the tools are supposed to do and I know they are in beta but they feel more like alpha. They need to be far more robust and a documented workflow would be very helpful.

  • Duncan / Dominic, thanks for your feedback. We will post some more examples and improve the documentation if that is an issue. I would appreciate if you could send us the specifics of the issues you are encountering to help us investigate and resolve them.

    Marco

Here is an example. The door cell I've placed in the dgn should not show the 3d extruded door in a top view but it does.

  • Hi Duncan, I had a quick look at your cell and I can make it work after moving the door fram and slab solids to the "Model" presentation (from "isometric").

We are working at making this tool more intuitive and easy to use to reduce the chance of confusion in assigning the graphics to each of the presentations.

  • Hi Marco

Thanks. I'm a bit confused. Your video seems to show what I don't want. In a top view I only want to see the 2d elements in the Door8 cell. I don't want to see any 3d. I don't think you are showing that.

    Duncan

  • Hi Duncan, sorry i had missed the handle, i had forgotten to add it to the "model" presentation too. I could never see the door slab i nthe top view but also the handle should not be shown in the top view, even if not assigned to any presentation when there is graphic assigned to the Top presentation. We'll investigate it deeper and get back to you.

  • This is what I am seeing. What I want to see are only the green arrowed items. I don't want to see the red arrowed items.

  • Besides the handle, which I can't see in my file in the top view, the other red-pointed elements are lines, which I think are not assigned to any presentations (and are kinda not handy to select and add to the model Presentation)..here is the confusion I got into, they are 2D elements but should not be shown in the Top view. We'll investigate why they are being displayed.
