If I attempt to place text or edit text in the attached file, MicroStation crashes.
ExampleTextFields.dgn
This is a new DGN file, created from the delivered 2D metric seed. When I click the Place Text tool button, I see a ghosted Tool Settings box, then a crash dialog with Abort etc. buttons. Then MicroStation quits. I attempted to create a crash log, but since MicroStation quits on that as well I don't know if there's any evidence!
Is there anything wrong with that file?

I removed and re-installed MicroStation CONNECT Update 11 (approx. 2 hours of my time). The text editor is working once more!

anyone thought it might be the internet explorer editor..?
the described symptoms look similar..
CAD techs used to browse sites and the IE editor would get hijacked or corrupted..the editor being greyed out was typical .. followed by a MicroStation Abort,Retry, Ignore..Used to fix it by reinstall
of IE not Microstation. Also a corrupt system font could do the same thing.
I know IE doesn't come with win10 anymore but doesn't Bentley still need the editor.. Its part of Edge now isn't it?
Just an idea.. MicroStation does depend on a few other systems.
no problems with the dgn and using update 11.. its not the file
but whats with the new black background in the editor.. yuck!
where's the old mdl dialog editor gone? the only option now is the M$ system editor ?I used to set pref:text to use the MDL editor and not the M$ system one to see if it was MicroStation or the system editor causing the exception..can't do that anymore. Why take it out?
Do other's have a text editor with a black background? can't find an option in settings
reverse direction and vertical text?? justify that like IGDS!;-P

there are couple of mistakes in your post...

if you use IE to browse Internet, you voluntarily signed up to be hijacked / attacked. This is old piece software, with very low compatibility level, recommended to don't use.

In V8i, DHTML component was used in MicroStation. I am not sure about CONNECT Edition, because I have not found any list of MicroStation dependencies, but probably the same or similar component is used. But it's not IE, it's just part of the IE components ecosystem. DHTML can be used independently, but, unfortunately, when IE installation is corrupted, it breaks also the components installation also.

It's not true at all. Internet Explorer is still delivered with Windows and still maintained by Microsoft (but only security patches are released, no any new development is done). I think it's installed by default with Windows 10, but can be unisntalled in Windows components. But it's not about IE only, many components exist in Windows OS regardless IE is installed or not.

I do not think so, Edge is completely different animal and it broek a lot of bad things and dependencies from the past. But Edge itself will be discontinued as Microsoft announce this week and their new browser will be based on Chromium engine, and, maybe, named differently.
