[CONNECT Update 11] Text Editor crashes MicroStation

If I attempt to place text or edit text in the attached file, MicroStation crashes.

ExampleTextFields.dgn

This is a new DGN file, created from the delivered 2D metric seed.  When I click the Place Text tool button, I see a ghosted Tool Settings box, then a crash dialog with Abort etc. buttons.  Then MicroStation quits.  I attempted to create a crash log, but since MicroStation quits on that as well I don't know if there's any evidence!

Is there anything wrong with that file?

  • Hi Karsten,

there are couple of mistakes in your post...

CAD techs used to browse sites and the IE editor would get hijacked or corrupted..

if you use IE to browse Internet, you voluntarily signed up to be hijacked / attacked. This is old piece software, with very low compatibility level, recommended to don't use.

anyone thought it might be the internet explorer editor..?

In V8i, DHTML component was used in MicroStation. I am not sure about CONNECT Edition, because I have not found any list of MicroStation dependencies, but probably the same or similar component is used. But it's not IE, it's just part of the IE components ecosystem. DHTML can be used independently, but, unfortunately, when IE installation is corrupted, it breaks also the components installation also.

I know IE doesn't come with win10 anymore

It's not true at all. Internet Explorer is still delivered with Windows and still maintained by Microsoft (but only security patches are released, no any new development is done). I think it's installed by default with Windows 10, but can be unisntalled in Windows components. But it's not about IE only, many components exist in Windows OS regardless IE is installed or not.

Its part of Edge now isn't it?

I do not think so, Edge is completely different animal and it broek a lot of bad things and dependencies from the past. But Edge itself will be discontinued as Microsoft announce this week and their new browser will be based on Chromium engine, and, maybe, named differently.

    With regards,
