[CONNECT] 3D Constraints - Define Solid Dimensions

I am trying to find if there is a possibility to define some variables on the Sold element.

To Start with I want to know if I can apply variables for flange width of a beam (refer to the picture). Is there a way I can define the dimension of flange width for the start of the beam and end of the beam?

For eg. at the start of the beam, flange width is 466mm whereas at the end of extrusion the width is 550mm

If there is a way to achieve this then I will continue this question with more possibilities and options.

  • You need to tell us what version of Microstation you are using. In Connect edition U11 this is possible but not in V8i.

  • Hi Duncan, I am using Microstation Connect Edition Update 11. It would be very helpful if you could explain how you can do this task.

    Thanks,

  • If you look at the functional components video on the 'Welcome to Microstation' screen that should get you started.

  • Hi Jaimin,

In this example, since you need to control cross section of a Beam at two different locations along its length, this is an requirement of Loft Solid Feature where you can generate Solid using two or more Parametric Profile Elements. At present we are working on this Tool and is under development. Will request our Product Manager Mr. Marco Salino to provide more information on this.

  • Here is a simplified example following on from Dinesh suggestion, but bear in mind this is not a Solid.

Draw 2 profiles and constrain as required and applied different variable dimensional constraints to each profile ( Profile1_X , Profile 2_X ). In addition if required constrain the distance between the profiles.

Use the Loft tool to form the Surfaces between the profiles. ( Note the Tool Settings the Profile:Show and Parametric is checked )

The resultant Parametric Surfaces can then be controlled by adjusting the Variables
