Am i blind or is there no button to update a display rule from the library button?
Not update display styles, but the rules applied to said styles.... i can't find a way to update them from library if a user changes something by accident and wants to reset it... how do they?

For Updating the Display rules from the library, you need to Select the "Display Rule Set" and Delete it. The local changes will get deleted and it will keep the Library style

Thank you i figured this out late last night it only took me half a dozen hours i'm still a bit baffled why this was done different then any other .dgnlib "style" but if it works i'll deal with it. I suggest working on continuity within the software there are many examples of this from the v8i into CE of lost continuity within the software. This leads to user confusion and frustration.

I have been wondering the same issue lately. Now the solution you propose does indeed reset the display rule. Unfortunately it also means that any display styles that are using said display rule get set to "none". So I have to enable them again. Which is asking for errors I'd think.
I created Display Rule: update from library | MicroStation Ideas Portal (aha.io) with request to align the "updating from library". Grant Wood and others, please vote if you agree this should be altered in the software.

I did a bit of digging and there is an example for creating a displayruleset keyin in the Micorstation\OBD SDK.
I am not a programmer so there is probably a way to create this whole process in Visual Studio but just using the delivered SDK you can create a MDL that adds the displayruleset keyin to OpenBuildings or I assume Microstation etc.
Then following the information above yes when you delete a display rule set it changes the display style back to none but you can then change it back to the required one using the keyins
displayrule delete ruleset NAME_OF_YOUR_RULESET
displaystyle setparam displayruleset "NAME_OF_YOUR_DISPLAYSTYLE" "NAME_OF_YOUR_RULESET"
That did the job for me.
interesting that the displayruleset delete keyin didn't require the " " around the name even with spaces in the name. It actually didn't work with I used "NAME_OF_YOUR_RULESET".
